Inspired by a conversation about mix tapes and Val Esway’s A Song A Day in April project, this month I’ll be excavating some old cassettes and non-oxidizing mp3 files for a retrospectacle of 20+ years of hit or miss home recording.
Here are the rules: You will get one song a day for a month.
Songwriting is my sort-of-secret lifelong hobby. Now here I go, recklessly posting it on the internet. I’ll share stuff ranging from unfinished sketches to some of my spit-shined favorites, and maybe I’ll even dig deep into the Barrel of Shame. Even the few folks who’ve collected my tapes or CDRs along the way will not have heard most of what I’ll be posting.
Feel free to download any that you like (there’s a link that says “download” on the bottom right of the little Flash player once it starts going). At the end of the month I’ll put them all in a big ol’ zip file for anybody who wants to ride the full pod-toboggan.
I’ll pair each of the songs with a tangentially related video in the sidebar purely for entertainment value.
DISCLAIMERFINEPRINT: This is homemade music. The quality of the recordings will vary. Many will be from weary old cassettes and they will sound like it. If you are looking for something polished and groovy you might be better served elsewhere.
